James watched in silence as his daughter ran up the path leading to the cabin on the hill. Even in her transformed state, he still saw her as his little girl.
He knew he must go to her, but first he needed to check the kids lying on the sand around his feet.
Werewolves could feel a pulse even when humans couldn't.
He gasped when he found Janet lying just outside the light of the fire. She was bleeding badly. The gashes on her neck showed all the signs of being attacked by a werewolf.
"But who",he thought to himself. As far as he knew, him and his daughter were the only two werewolves in this town. It was the whole reason they moved here after Brenda was born.
Janet had a pulse, but it was faint. He knew she wouldn't last long. He picked her up after checking the other kids.
He raced up the hill at an amazing speed, and ran into the cabin he saw his daughter heading towards.
The front door was open, but it was eerily silent inside. He hesitated for an instant, thinking he'd went to the wrong cabin.
James closed his eyes and listened closely. He heard the thump of heartbeats coming from down the hallway. There were 2 human sets, and he couldn't mistake the odd beating of a werewolves heart. Brenda.
Then he heard it, the second beating of a werewolves heart. It was faint, but it was there.
He laid Janet down gently on the couch and raced down the hallway.
He walked into the bedroom on the right to find a heart wrenching scene.
A bleeding werewolf had an older lady by the neck, an old man was standing in shock, pointing a gun at the werewolf. Brenda was standing beside the old man, ready to pounce.
James recognized the bleeding werewolf instantly. It was Paul. He told Brenda to stay away from him! Dammit! Paul wasn't like them. His blood lust was well known throughout the werewolf community. Even Paul's own father had warned them about his son.
Adam, Paul's father, had contacted James soon after they moved into town. His concern for the humans in the small town was evident, but he just hadn't been sure where else to move his family. Paul left dead bodies in their wake for so many years.
James looked directly into Paul's yellow eyes. He knew Paul wouldn't stop until they were all dead. James resisted the urge to transform. He knew his daughter could handle this.
"Let my wife go!", screamed the old man.
With one toss, the old lady was flung across the room. Once she was safety aside, Brenda lunged towards Paul.
James grabbed the woman and took her out of the room. He bumped into the old man in the hallway.
"Margaret! Gimme my wife!"
"There's a young lady in the living room. Check on her," James said as he handed the man his sobbing wife.
Without waiting for a reply, James ran back into the bedroom.
He watched in horror as Paul rose on his powerful hind legs and stood at his true height.
Brenda did the same and let out a loud howl.
They stared at it each other. Each one waiting for the other to attack.
In an instant, Brenda was swiping at Paul with her sharp claws. He dodged them easily.
James could tell that Paul had lost a lot of blood. Soon, he would be weak enough for Brenda to defeat.
Brenda lunged towards Paul again, and with one swipe of her huge claws,
nearly decapitated him.
James knew that wouldn't be enough to kill him.
"His heart, Brenda!", he yelled to his daughter.
Paul fell to the floor. Brenda stood over him. She raised her claws once more and sunk them deep inside his chest. When she pulled them back out, she held Paul's heart in her hand.
With a loud growl, she crushed it in her hands.
Paul immediately transformed from a werewolf back into his human form and died instantly.
James tossed the blanket from the bed over his daughter, anticipating her transformation.
Once she had turned back into her human form, he rushed her to the living room. He found the lady leaning over Janet, tending to her wounds. The old man was standing guard with this gun.
"Could you explain to me what the HELL is goin' on here?", the old man asked James.
"You might want to sit down. This could take a while," James replied.
