Halloween Horror: Part 1

HALLOWEEN HORROR: PART 1

"Dammit, Robert! Why are you wearing that ridiculous costume?!", Nikki said heatedly.

Robert stopped in the hallway and looked at Nikki, who was headed to the front door to get ready to give out Halloween treats. He glanced down as his lightbulb costume.

"I'm dressed as a lightbulb cause I'm bright. Get it?", he asked and laughed.

Nikki shook her head, opened the door and turned on her porch light. She knew Robert was a moron, but he was her closest friend and she needed his help to make it through this mess.

"We are handing out these popcorn balls, you idiot. We don't need to dress up for that."

Robert huffed, "You know those will just get tossed out, right? I mean, I can't imagine any parent would let their kid eat a homemade popcorn ball in this day and age."

"Well, DUH! That's the idea! We NEED them thrown out," Nikki replied and rolled her eyes.

"Seems like a waste, doesn't it? All that work we put into it,"  Robert said as he sat down in a chair beside her on the front porch.

"Holy shit. Robert, I think your lightbulb just might be blown. Or it's loose! Maybe the damn thing is broke!"

"Whoa! No need to get your temper switched on... See what I did there? I said switched on. Cause I'm a lightbulb. Hehe.."

Robert fidgeted uncomfortably when Nikki glared at him.

"Did you forget the body we ground up and mixed into these damn popcorn balls? Did you honestly fucking forget?"

Robert grew quiet the instant she mentioned the horrendous crime they had committed. He hanged his head in shame.

Nikki felt bad as soon as it slipped from her mouth. She knew she should've never dragged Robert into this, but she couldn't do it alone and he was the only one she could count on. Plus, he was the only person she could trust to keep his mouth shut.

"Look, I'm sorry. I'm just nervous. I'm terrified we will get caught. Our only hope is these things get thrown away,"  Nikki said softly.

Robert picked up one of the red popcorn balls. They looked disgusting. He was nearly positive no one would guess the red color was actually blood and not food coloring. As for the chunks in it, no one would think twice. This was Halloween, after all. People expected gross and gooey.

"We'll be fine, Nikk. No one would dare attempt to eat anything homemade,"  Robert said reassuringly.

Nikki could only pray he was right. She had no clue how else to get rid of this body.

They both looked to their left as a group of kids came running down the sidewalk. They ran up to the porch and held out their buckets. Nikki looked around nervously for their parents. She couldn't risk one of these kids eating these popcorn balls.

"Trick or treat!", they all yelled excitedly.

Nikki was starting to panic already. Sweat popped up all over her forehead. Robert could see she was close to freaking out, so he took the big box of popcorn balls from her.

"Here you go, little goblins!", he said cheerfully.

All the kids wore looks of pure disappointment when they saw what they were getting.

"Ugh! What is this?", one little ghost pipped up.

"Oozing, bloody popcorn balls!" Robert answered.

Robert dropped one in each container and smiled at the kids.

As they walked away, Nikki let out a deep breath.

"Holy shit! That was nerve wrecking! Let's hope none of those little bastards bite into those before their parents have a chance to take it!", she said in a rush.

Just then one small trick-or-treater made her way onto the porch.

"Well, looky here!", Robert nearly squealed as the little witch waddled up to him.

"Where are her parents?! Do none of these damn kids have any parents?!" Nikki asked in a panic.

"My nerves can't handle this. I need a stiff drink. I'll be right back," Nikki said as she headed inside.

She was shaking so badly, she nearly dropped the bottle of scotch. She finally managed to fill up a shot glass and quickly downed three.

Nikki gathered her courage and headed back to the porch. The little girl was making her way off of the porch and stopped on the sidewalk. Nikki saw her looking to the house next door. There was a small group of people coming from the porch.

That must be her family, Nikki thought. And she was beyond relieved when she saw several adults with the group. Surely one of them would toss out that popcorn ball the instant they saw it.

Just when she felt like she could finally relax, she saw something that made her heart nearly jump from her chest.

The little witch was about to bite into the popcorn ball.
