The Date: Part 4

THE DATE: PART 4

Lee heard Amber gasp and felt her tense up.

"It's my father!! Lee, what are we going to do?!!"

Lee looked at her with concern in his eyes. He had only heard Andrew banging on his door and calling his name.

"It's not your father, Amber. It's Andrew. Your father is dead. I hate to put it this way, but his head was nearly blown off. There's no way he could've survived that."

He gave her a tight squeeze and jumped up to pull his jeans on. Amber pulled the blanket closer to her and watched Lee leave the room. She still wasn't convinced it was not her father she'd heard. It sounded just like him.

Lee walked back into the bedroom a few minutes later to find Amber curled up in the blanket. Her face was pale.

"Andrew needs a ride home. You want to come along?"

"No.. I'm going to try to get some sleep. Just wake me up when you get back," Amber replied.

Lee gave her a quick kiss and hugged her tightly.

"I'll be back in an hour. Try to get some rest. And remember, you are safe now.  I love you," Lee said and left the room.

Amber was exhausted and dozed off easily. Some time later, she awoke to the sound of the bedroom door opening. She smiled to herself, happy Lee had returned.

She couldn't see him in the darkness, but she heard him moving around the room.

"I missed you, my love,"  she said softly.

"Did ya, you little bitch?!", she heard her mother answer.

Amber jumped up from the bed and fumbled for the lamp beside the bed. She wasn't sure if her mind was playing tricks on her again or not. But she was terrified.

She turned the light on and was horrified to see her mother standing at the end of the bed. She threw a bloody glob at Amber and it landed at her feet. Amber looked down in shock to see what remained of her father's rotting skull.

"See what you did!! Look at him!!", her mother yelled.

Amber was too afraid to even move. Her mother was covered in blood. She had a huge mass on the side of her head where Lee had stabbed her.

"I should've killed you when you were a baby. I'm gonna correct that mistake now,"  the old lady said as she pulled out a butcher knife from her bag.

Amber reached for the lamp, ready to beat her mother over the head with it, when she remembered the gun Lee kept in the nightstand drawer. She opened the drawer and grabbed the gun, pointed it at her mother and fired.

The old lady fell forward onto the bed, her blood spilling everywhere. Amber started to scream then. She was still screaming when Lee walked in a few minutes later.

Lee grabbed her and took her into his arms. He took the gun from her trembling hands.

"Are you ok, Amber?!", Lee asked while checking her from head to toe.

Amber was still too upset to talk , so she nodded her head. Lee lead her from the bedroom and into the living room. He dug out his phone from his pocket and called 911.

While on the phone, he heard Amber let out a scream loud enough to wake the dead. He turned to look and saw her mother stumbling from the bedroom, groaning in pain.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me!! Don't you inbreds ever fucking DIE?", Lee yelled. He wasn't afraid. He was pissed.

Lee let go of Amber, dropped his phone and reached for his gun. He walked up to the old lady and fired into her skull until the gun was emptied. He didn't even mind the blood splattering on his arms and face.

"Now die like a normal person, god dammit!", he yelled as he stomped the body.

He only stopped when he heard sirens outside his door. He went to Amber and carried her shaking body from the house.

He looked back at the old lady once more, as if to assure himself she was dead.

"This has been one hell of a date,"  he said to Amber as he kissed her forehead.
