TWITCH

Becky never saw it coming. She was madly in love, with who she thought was the man of her dreams. Her entire world revolved around David. Whenever she looked at him, she only saw the man she loved.

Her friends tried to warn her. Naturally, she never listened to any of them. If David acted odd, Becky always had an excuse for him.

As she sat in their favorite restaurant, with tears streaming down her face, she looked back on it all. This was the very place they had met. Becky had been waiting tables when David walked in one day nearly a month ago.  She was deeply regretting trusting David so completely. But it was too late now.

She would never forget the last conversation she had with her mom. Her mother was furious over Becky's relationship with David.

"But I love him!" Becky had screamed desperately.

"Love? Ha! You know nothing of love! You're 18 years old! This is the first relationship you've ever had! You think this is love?! He's a 32 year old man! He should know better!" her mother screamed back.

"Mom, please don't do this. Please. Don't put me in this position."

"Don't ever bring him here again. The man is strange! Always mumbling to himself and that one eye twitching! Who the hell is he talking to?! And what the hell do you see in him?!"

Becky didn't bother answering. She knew her mom would never understand. David was her first love, her only love. No other man had ever shown an interest in Becky. David had been the very first.

"You don't even know him. It's only been a month! Don't you dare leave this house and go with him. If you do, never come back," Becky's mom said softly.

She had ran out of her mother's house and jumped into David's car waiting outside.

"Let me guess. She's bitching again," David said sarcastically as Becky got in.

Becky swiped at the tears streaming down her face. "I don't want to talk about it."

David shook his head. "Your mom is a total bitch. Forget about her."

Becky leaned her head on the cold glass of the car window and stared out into the dark night.

David took off with a squeal and sped down the street.

Becky closed her eyes and drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

The next thing she knew, David was shaking her shoulder waking her up.

She looked around, surprised to see they were in the middle of the woods.

"What are we doing here?" she asked, confused.

"I have something I want to show you. Come on."

Becky reluctantly got out of the car. She followed David, nearly tripping over large stones. She was surprised at how easily David walked the path. Never once tripping over the fallen tree limbs.

They walked through the night for what seemed like a half an hour.

Becky glanced down to make sure nothing was in her path and looked back up to find David gone.

 "David?", she said, suddenly afraid.

She let out a scream when she felt someone approach her from behind. David quickly clamped a hand over her mouth.

"Shhhh, you must be quiet. You will anger him, " he breathed into her ear.

He grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her back, using it to shove her  forward.

Becky's eyes welled up with tears as she noticed the shovel, garbage bags and shotgun lying on the ground in front of them.

David felt her tense. "Now, don't be afraid. I have to do this. I have no other choice."

Although Becky was sure of what he meant, her mind raced trying to think of any other possibility. Surely David didn't truly plan on killing her.

"I'm going to release my hand from your mouth. But don't you dare scream," he said with a threat in his voice.

Becky stood there, fear keeping her frozen in place.

David released his hold on her and walked around in front of her.

He picked up the shotgun and aimed it towards her head.

"Why, David? Why?" she said in a panic, tears nearly choking her.

"He told me to. I have to do what he says. He's always screaming at me. This will make him stop. The instant he saw you, he wanted me to do this. He said you reminded him of 'her'."

Becky was growing more confused by the second.

"He? Who's 'he'?" she said with fear in her voice.

David pointed to his head. "My dad. He's dead, but he's still up here. He never goes away."

Becky knew right then that David was insane.

"Stop screaming!! I'm going to do it!" David yelled, punching his head.

David aimed the gun at Becky and prepared to shoot. Becky squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the shot that was about to kill her.

After a few a seconds without gunfire, she peeked open her eyes. She saw David still standing there, all the blood drained from his face. He was staring beyond her, into the darkness behind her.

As Becky went to turn around, she felt something freezing touch her back.

Her body went rigid as she felt something take control of her body.

David still stood there staring, but now he was staring directly at Becky.

"Those eyes. I recognize those eyes," David mumbled as his right eye twitched.

Becky was shocked when an unfamiliar voice escaped her mouth.

"I can't allow you to do this again, son," a soft female voice said.

"Your father took my life when you were just a baby. Now the evil he possessed is trying to take over you. He won't stop until he's found a host body," the voice continued.

Becky was in shock. She couldn't understand what was happening. When she realized she was moving towards David, she tried to stop herself. But she was powerless.

She only stopped when she stood inches away from David. She unwillingly reached out her ice cold hand and placed it on David's chest, right over his heart.

She gasped as the life began to drain from David, right into her own body. A lifeless David slumped to the ground.

"It's time to go now, son. You've suffered long enough at the hands of your father," the voice said.

Becky slumped to the ground as the coldness left her body. She watched in horror as a white light appeared in front of her. Before her very eyes stood the shape of a young woman holding an infant.

"Who are you?! What's happening?" Becky screamed.

"You are safe now. He can't hurt you. His soul is right here, in my arms. My baby, my son."

Becky didn't even remember making it back to town. She had no clue how she ended up in this diner. When she finally came to her senses, this is where she found herself.

She looked up when she heard the bells above the restaurant door jingle. She was shocked to see her mother walking towards her.

"Mom? How did you know where to find me?"

"Don't worry about that, dear. Let's just say a concerned parent told me. It's time to go home."

Becky reached out her hand to her mom and her mom squeezed it. They walked out the door together, heading home.

Becky looked over at her mom when she heard her  mumbling to herself.

 "Mom, are you okay?"

Her mother looked at her and smiled. The same exact smile David had always given her.

"I'm fine, dear. Just fine," her mom said as her right eye twitched.
