From Under The Door

FROM UNDER THE DOOR

Every night for the last four months, they came to Jessica's room. Trying to make their way under her door. Never succeeding in their task.

They would reach their fingers under the door. Clawing , grasping. She could hear their cries of agony and pain from her spot under her blankets.

She sat on her bed frozen in fear, unable to move. At first, she was terrified they would open the door. But after the first few weeks, Jessica realized they couldn't open it. So they just kept trying to reach her from their spot at the bottom of the door.

She put double locks on the door. She always made sure to sleep with her handgun close to her pillow.

Jessica tried to tell her friends. They just laughed at her. No one believed her. But she really couldn't blame them. Only young kids got scared at night and believed in ghosts. It was hard to believe a 30 year old woman was fearing the same things.

Moving to a new place didn't help. The apparitions just followed her. Her very first night in her new apartment, she watched the bottom of the door. She couldn't sleep. She was praying they hadn't followed her.

She heard their cries before she saw their hands. Soon after, there came their hands grasping under the door.

Jessica knew why they were there. She wish she could've pretended she didn't know. But she did.

She'd never forget that day as long as she lived. It felt as if it happened yesterday instead of two years ago.

She was driving home from a late shift at work and dozed off.

When she woke up, she was hitting a guardrail. She swerved her car quickly and ended up hitting a car coming in the other lane. Her car flipped, landing  beside the other car, which had also flipped.

All Jessica could see were fingers reaching through the crushed car. They were trying to get out, but were unable to.

She couldn't move. She heard their cries and screams. But Jessica was pinned and couldn't help them. Her heart nearly burst when she heard the screams of a baby coming from the other car.

She didn't remember anything after that because she blacked out.

Next thing she knew, she was waking up in the hospital and was told a family had died in the wreck. A woman, a man, and an infant.

She tried to move on with her life. Jessica wasn't charged with a crime, but many felt she should've been.

Then the hands started. Those same cries that had haunted her dreams. Those same hands.

She knew they would never leave her.  They would always haunt her.

The last night they came to her door, she laid there quietly waiting for their wails to cease. She knew they only stayed a few hours. She finally fell asleep after plugging her ears.

Except this night was different. This night, they managed to open the door. But she was asleep and didn't see them enter the room.

She woke up suddenly when the wails were right next to her ears.

She opened her eyes to see a man and a woman holding an infant standing next to her bed.

She knew what was coming. She squeezed her eyes shut as he leaned down and wrapped his hands around her throat, draining the life from Jessica's body.

Soon, she was nothing more than a corpse lying on the bed.

When friends went to check on her days later, they broke in and found her body.

The hands had finally gotten her.
