Wander

I opened my eyes,
Desperately searching for him.
The darkness was overwhelming,
I tried to move but I was pinned.

The deafening silence crept up,
The cold wind breezed by my ear.
I reached my hand out into the night,
Temporarily forgetting how I got here.

The pain was sudden,
It came out of no where.
I began to scream in agony,
And suddenly he was there.

He reached for my hand,
Giving it a gentle squeeze.
I told him I was scared and I
Couldn't feel my legs below my knees.

He brushed a stray hair
From my bloody face.
He told me to close my eyes,
And he'd get me out of that place.

I squeezed my eyes closed
As tightly as I possibly could.
Within seconds I was out,
No longer pinned beneath the crushed dash and hood.

As he held me tightly,
The pain begin to cease.
All the feeling returned
To my legs and knees.

I looked over his shoulder
As we walked off into the night.
And what I saw behind us,
Filled me with deathly fright.

I saw us, him and I, in the car.
Our dead bodies trapped inside.
I never knew that it
Would be our final ride.

He carried me in his arms,
Keeping me close.
No longer were we alive.
We would wander as ghosts.
