THE NEXT FULL MOON
Danny sat on the sand and watched the gentle waves wash over his bare feet. The full moon lit up the empty beach. He was glad to be alone.
It was his last night at the campground. Tomorrow him and his two brothers would leave the beautiful scenery of Virginia Beach to head back home to Ohio.
This past weekend had been peaceful and he'd desperately needed that. His life had become too stressful and hectic in the past year.
When his younger brothers made plans to come here a few months ago, he'd turn down their offer for him to tag along to begin with.
That was before Katie walked out on him without so much as a goodbye or kiss my ass after three years together.
He'd came home from work to find all of her belongings gone. That had been nearly a month ago.
He was still hurt and still had no answers as to why she left. He loved Katie and a part of him was sure he always would.
The waves died down and Danny laid back to enjoy the warm breeze blowing across his skin.
It was amazing how relaxing and calming a few hours alone at the beach was on a man.
Splashing in the water caused him to open his eyes and lean up to glance across the water.
He saw her instantly. Her wet, blonde hair glistened in the light of the moon. His breath caught in his throat as he caught a glimpse of her face.
She was an angel. She had to be. No one could possibly be that beautiful.
She smiled the most captivating smile he'd ever seen when her eyes met his.
Danny was frozen. He knew he must look like a huge jackass sitting there staring at her, but he was completely mesmerized.
He swiped his mouth like a starving man preparing for a meal, certain he was drooling.
"Get control of yourself!", he mumbled to himself.
She swam closer and said, "Swim with me?"
His heart nearly burst. That voice. Everything about her was perfect.
He stood and began walking to the water.
She laughed softly and said, "Lose the clothes."
Danny couldn't believe this was happening. What could he have done to deserve such luck?
"Are you sure?", he said hesitatingly.
She nodded her head and her long hair caressed her bare shoulders.
That's all he needed. He slid off his shorts and walked into the water.
She smiled and gestured for him to come closer.
Danny felt like he was no longer controlling his own body. He wadded out to her and stopped when she rose from the water. The water wasn't deep yet, only coming to his stomach.
Water glistened on her bare skin. Perky breasts with hard nipples caught his attention. He forced himself to look at her face.
She reached out her hand and he took it without thinking twice.
He noticed her hand was freezing cold, but was too distracted by her beauty to ask her if she'd like to get out of the water.
Danny mentally cursed himself for spending most of the weekend moping around inside the tent. If he'd left the tent more often, surely he would've seen her.
As it was now, he only had this one night to spend with her before he left in the morning.
She turned around and swam out further into the water.
Danny caught a glimpse of her round backside and couldn't control the erection that popped up.
He swam out with her and finally caught up to her. She turned around to float in the water. Danny swam up to her and something compelled him to reach out to touch her.
His hand grazed her stomach with his fingertips and again, her skin was freezing. He still didn't say anything, fearful of ruining this amazing moment.
She sighed and floated closer to him, until she was right next to him.
Danny couldn't keep from saying something this time. Her skin felt like ice as it touched his.
"Maybe we should get out."
She stopped floating and stood beside him in the water. She was covered in the dark water right up to her chin.
She put her finger to his lips to silence him.
Danny didn't say another word.
She leaned him to kiss him and he didn't resist.
He felt her tongue brush against his lips. He opened his mouth to take her cool tongue inside the warmth of his mouth.
Danny closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around her waist. She pressed her body up tightly against him.
One moment he was kissing her and the next moment he couldn't breathe.
His eyes opened as her tongue made its way down his throat. Her skin was pressed so hard against his that it hurt.
Danny couldn't even move to fight her.
The coldness from her body had crept right into him, freezing him in place.
He could do nothing as he felt the life drained from his body.
The last thing he felt was her skin. It was warm.
She leaned closer to whisper in his ear.
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to take your life, but I can only revive myself during a full moon. Death does not become me. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time."
When she'd drained the last of his life from his body with her tongue and skin , she let him go. His body sunk to the bottom.
*****
Early the next morning, Roger and David searched the beach for their brother, both becoming extremely worried when they found his discarded shorts, but no sign of him.
"It's safe to go in now."
They both turned around to find a young woman standing there.
Her long, blonde hair framed her angelic face.
"Excuse me?" Roger asked.
"During the full moon is the only time she can surface," the young woman said softly.
"Who? Who are you talking about?" Roger asked.
"She died in that very water 145 years ago. Murdered by her own husband. He drowned her on their wedding night because he loved another woman. She didn't deserve to die that way..."
Roger and David looked at each other in complete confusion.
When they turned back around, she was gone.
They searched the beach again for their brother, neither really forgetting the stunning, mysterious woman.
The brothers reported Danny missing and stayed another week as divers searched for Danny's body.
They were devastated when the police declared Danny dead. His body was never found.
Their brother was gone and they eventually had to return home without him.
What they didn't realize was, that water wasn't normal water. It could give life back to the dead, but only temporarily and with the aid of a live person. They would have one week before their body began to decay and they once again had to return to the depth of the water.
Danny would be back.
He only had to wait until the next full moon.
